Abstract photography
Abstract photography concentrates on shapes, form, colour, texture and pattern. The point of an abstract image is for it to be nearly unrecognisable- to make the viewer think "what is that a picture of?". Abstract photography is all about the depth of the image and the dimensions. It is also about the proximity of the image and how the closeness of the item in the image can change your perception of the image.

Francis Bruguiere was born in San Francisco in 1879. In 1905 he moved to New York, he also became a member of the photo-secession exhibiting four prints at the Albright Knox show. In 1928, Bruguiere moved to London and shot a short film called "Light Rhythms" which is noted for its abstraction. Whilst he was in London, he experimented with cut-paper abstractions (which is what he is well known for). These experiments used light alone with the paper to create abstract photographs. I really like these images and find them fascinating as I didn't think you could ever make something so beautiful with paper and shadows. Sager is an artist who has collections in Canada, Japan, Hungary and USA. The series is called "Antimatter" and is images of cut paper in different directions. These images are of a light tone and seem to be quite subtle.
Lorenz was born in 1976 in Oberhausen, after she got her diploma in Visual Communication/Photodesign at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. She then studied at New York's International Centre of Photography. Lorenz has taken part in many exhibitions worldwide, later on she then created abstract photographs by playing with the backdrops, lighting and shade.

All of the edited images below have been edited with Pixlr. They are all using different effects.
The image above is using the effect Amber, it has given the whole photo a pink tinge.
I quite like this image because it is macro and you can see every single detail in the paper.

The image above is also very close up of the card which in this picture seems to look quite exposed, it also looks like the card is very pastel.
The image above is also of the card however the effect that I have used has made the card all a different colour from their natural colours of blue, pink, yellow and cream.
The image to the left is also a different colour to the original as it has a bit of a green tinge. |
evaluation
I think my favourite image is the edited image with the green/blue tint on the right. I like how it is quite exposed on the right top as it brings out the colour more of the paper. I also like how you can see all of the shadows from each piece of paper.
I think I prefer this image to the original as I actually prefer the colour of the paper here than the original. |

The images below are of some ripped paper in Monochrome and some very close up images (macro). I quite like these as I think they are quite effective with the shadows and the details in the creasing and the tears.
evaluation
I quite like how all of the shadows are quite sheer and how all of the creases are shown and quite strong. I also like how the tear along the edge is in the middle so it is one of the main focuses. It is also in black and white as that is the effect that I chose to use as it brings out the shadows more.
