Photography is seeing a moment in life and wanting to catch it, it is about finding a way to always remember a certain experience or memory. Its is about having fun and doing something you love whether that means other people like the pictures you take or not.
an imaginary exhibition
1.The first image that I decided to use for the historical point of view of the different techniques used in the entire range of photography is the cyanotypes that Anna Atkins made, I think they are quite an important part of history as it shows that photography can be also be camera-less.
2.The second image I chose was also in the unit of camera-less photography, this image is a chemigram which also shows the lengths that photography can be taken without using an actual camera. 3.For this image I thought it was quite relaxing and tranquil with how the water looks a bit overexposed and smooth. I like how the sky is quite a soft orange from the sun setting or rising. |
4.The fourth image that I chose was an image that is more based around the wildlife side of photography. It is quite a simple image that shows how life is for animals in the wild and the conditions that they have to live in.
5. This image is completely different to the previous images that I have chosen, it is taken in a style to make it look completely disorientated, the camera may also have a different lens on it to disorientate it even more.
6.This image is black and white which I think suits the scenery more as it looks like the weather is not very good in the image which means that it is simplified by the other colours that may have taken away from the effect of the image
7. This image is about focus which I think is very important in the entire unit of photography, this is because the focus of the image can completely change the concept and the main aspect of the photo that it trying to be shown.
8.I really like this image as it is one of my favourite images that I found when I went to the Barbican Gallery.
9. I think this image is like a conventional desktop background on a computer, they always seem like they don't have a depth of field which makes it seem unreal.
10. This image is a fashion portrait, I decided to add fashion photography in as it is another genre and is something that is quite influential in the world of photography.
11. This image is completely different to any of the other images that I have chosen, it is something that is completely out there and quite weird however it is fashion photography which is a big genre in the photographic world.
12. This is quite a different way of presenting a landscape, it shows the world in a new way and shows the strongest light is at the end of the tunnel.
13. This modelled image is like a family portrait as it is showing love and affection shown towards the child and how playful they all are.
14. This photograph is signifying the old and the new combining together, it shows that they can combine architecturally and still look good. It also shows that everyday life continues in a very functional way without drama.
15. I quite like this photo of a couple walking over the bridge in London, it has quite a good depth of field as you have the people walking into the distance with a black cab just driving past and in the back ground there is the Big Ben. I like how it is very empty as it is has been snowing and I also like how it is kind of like two silhouettes as they both wearing black. Upon further inspection, the two people in the image look like they could have been photoshopped into the image.
16. The structure of this image is quite interesting, both the females in this image are dressed in very posh outfits and it looks like it is staged which makes it seem like it is some type of event or party however they both do not look very happy which makes you wonder whether they are there because they want to be or they have to be there.
17. This is quite unique compared to all of the other images that I have taken, it is full of different bright colours and shows the interior design of a canteen. It seems quite empty and boring however there are also people in the image which are blurred which means that the camera used was set on a slow shutter speed.
18.This portrait is also taken by a fashion photographer, I decided to add two of these types of photographs to my collection as this one seems to be more serious and more posed than the previous.
19. This is another portrait however it is of an actress, I thought this image opened the exhibition up more to the side that is more about paparazzi and celebrities being constantly in the spotlight.
20. This image is probably the most famous and well-known image in my entire exhibition, it is an image that is full of emotion and signifies a very important time in history. It is known all over the world and will always be remembered.

I found it quite difficult organising the images however I did finally manage. In the image to the left I have them laid out on the carpet in my living room however I am mainly thinking of the display being shown on a staircase so that you look at the images whilst going upstairs in the exhibition. The first column of images is of the image by Simon Kennedy and the image by Stephen Shore, I thought these two images went well together because the one on the left is of an old building merged with a new building and blue skies whilst the right image is of a blue sky and a "retro style" image from the 1970s. I have based the entire display on the images in the middle that are going horizontally down. The five middle ones have all got people in them, three of which are of portraits taken by different fashion photographers, I decided to have three because most of the photos that we see are based on fashion or celebrities.

The first image going diagonally down on the left is of a colourful canteen, this mostly links with the image above which is half modern however it also links with the picture next to it of a model lying in the middle of all different colour snakes, they link due to all of the bright colours. The next line down has two black and white images, both of which have two people in them which is why I place them next to each other. I then placed the family photograph which is also in black and white, the two picture underneath that should be switched over as the colours in the pictures would match better with the images the opposite way round. The bottom row is of all of the nature images. The right hand column have the first three images which are kind of like the history of camera-less photography whilst the next images are of a building that has been put out of perspective, I have placed this next to the one of the photographs of a famous person as most pictures like that are photo shopped. The last image also in black and white is linked to the bottom row of nature.
It was quite a lot harder than I anticipated to find images that show what photography is, there is probably one area of photography that I have accidentally missed out or areas that I have never seen before however this was the best that I could do.
