summer tasks
Activity number 1
Select a number of printed photographs you have taken some ago. Tear them up randomly. Re-arrange, either together or separately to create new images. You could drop them on a new surface and affix where they land and/or take a more deliberate approach.
I found some old images that I had and tore the first picture up into squares so that it still has some structure, I then shuffled all of the the pieces so that they were in a weird order and then laid them out one by one back into a rectangle however all of the sections are in the wrong order. It was quite weird to see the image in a completely different order to before and I still like the image.
The second image that I used was a bigger print, I also decided to leave this one more up to chance as I didn't rip them up in a particular order or structure. Then when I went to make the new image I shuffled the pieces again but this time i tried to drop the pieces from a height however I still wanted it to be near to the same shape that it was before whereas the middle of the image is in more of a mixed order. You don't really appreciate the difference as all of the colours are very similar to each other. I think that I should have picked an image with more variance in the colours so that it had an effect in the end that people would notice.
I personally found it quite difficult to tear up some photographs that I printed some time ago as I feel that I am very sentimental as the only photos I have printed are from when I am on holiday, however once I got over that it was quite peculiar to be rearranging images that I am so used to looking in a particular way, however I am quite impressed with the outcome from the first one.

activity number 2
Choose one of your own photographs. On a piece of paper, exactly the same size and shape as the printed images, write a very detailed description of the photograph- its subject, style composition etc. Try to describe it exactly and in minute detail. When you have finished discard the original photograph, deleting it everywhere it appears or exists so that only the written version of the image remains.
'The sun has recently set- leaving a dusky look in the sky, partially brown from the city lights. A bridge follows the image from left to right, cutting the image in half. The 18 street lights from the bridge reflect into the water, they shine red, yellow and green. The sky and the ground are the same colour- both a khaki/ brown colour. The image is very much centred around the horizon as that is where the bridge is, which is the main feature. I find that this image makes me feel quite nostalgic as I remember taking this photo a couple of years ago.'
It was a lot more difficult than I expected to explain what a photograph looks like. I tried really hard to explain the image in as much detail as possible but it is a lot harder to put something visual into words. I also didn't want to have to delete the photo as I know that what I have written doesn't do justice to the photo and no one else will ever know what the original photo looked like which makes me feel kind of upset that I couldn't explain it in words, however I will never forget what the image looks like. I also think that if the paper was bigger I could have explained further but the piece of paper is the same size as the photograph was.
activity number 3
This series of pictures were all taken with the requirements of there being 10-15 photos that are all portrait that have an animal in them. The images above, all take a different perspective on the requirements for this set of images, I think I personally prefer the bottom 4 images
This series of photos were taken with the description of 10 photos that are landscape with the colour blue in them. These images have all fulfilled the requirements set, however my favourite image is the second one of the bright white house with the dark royal blue front door and garage door.
